World's Best Water Purification

The world's best water purification system has no definitive titleholder, mainly because of the plethora of good options available. There are a number of systems for distilling and purifying water that are scientifically respected and effective. Carbon filtration dechlorinates and removes organic contaminants from the water. Carbon filters are used in water purifiers by Biozone, among others, which also employs an ionization method that removes damaging minerals that cause scale build-up.

Most water filters have an design component that addresses sediment filtration, with the intent of removing suspended particles like sand, silt, and rust from water. They can cause discoloration and bad taste in the water. Carbon filtration also removes tastes and odors as well as herbicides, pesticides, radon, THMs, and volatile organic contaminants.

Reverse Osmosis: A New Purifying Technology
Another contender for the title of World's Best Water Purification is the process of reverse osmosis, also known as ultra-filtration by the industry. It was developed in the late 1950s with government funding, as a possible method of desalinating sea water. Today, reverse osmosis has earned a reputation as a convenient and thorough method of filtering water. It is used by most water bottling plants, and by many industries that require ultra-refined water purification for manufacturing purposes. No longer classified, this technology is now available to you and I for home water purification systems.

So what makes reverse osmosis such an effective purification method? Water molecules are forced through a 0.0001 micron membrane by water pressure. Depending on how much water you need to process, you may choose different sizes of membranes. it's the water pressure that makes this method so effective--a great deal of force is required to shove the water through the membrane and separate it from the contaminants you want left behind.
