Room Air Purifiers
For consumers or small businesses that cannot afford to have a complete air purification system installed (or cannot afford the maintenance of an elaborate HEPA filtrations system), room air purifiers are a reasonable, effective option. Most brands have small or even portable air purifiers which can easily be moved from room to room, allowing a small apartment or business to have clean air without the extra expense and hassle of a larger unit's installation.
Nearly every brand and type of air purifying system, from AllerAir to Biozone, has a room air purifier available for purchase. Personal air purifiers for use during travel are also available, and can be useful for the businessperson on the go. Increasingly popular are air cleaners for automobiles and restrooms, as well. Frequently used cars like taxis or rental cars would benefit from having an air purifier, ensuring that no matter how many miles are on the car, it still retains its fresh, new car smell and feel.
Room Air Purifiers vs. Whole House Units
Smaller air purifiers tend to be more effective and less of a hassle than whole house units, mainly because air circulation through some buildings, unless there is a built-in central air system, can be problematic. Older, multi-story homes (and office buildings in particular) that lack central air may need several smaller purifiers to ensure that every room stays fresh and dust and germ-free.
Smaller, portable air cleaners, like their larger brethren, generally have a mix of UV lamps, carbon media, ozone generators and/or a HEPA filtration device to remove allergens and other pollutants from the air. As with any purchase, the consumer should research the brand, looking at EPA guidelines, warranties and consumer reviews to assess which system and brand is the one appropriate for him or her. This will ensure a positive experience with purchasing room air purifiers.
