Home air purification systems can make a huge difference in a house where someone smokes. Most good purification systems can function as smoke eaters to destroy the foul odors that cigarette smoke can produce. If you have family members with asthma, smoke eaters are practically a necessity.
After you install a home air purification system, you'll notice a difference right away. Whether the system uses ultraviolet light or charged ions to capture contaminants, you'll notice a reduction (if not outright removal) of smoke odor, pet dander, dust mites, and pollen. In my own home, I noticed a big difference as I walked through the rooms in which I'd installed purifiers--the air seems a lot crisper, cleaner and less stale than it was before.

Even my good pal who lives next door came over the other day and he said that he could tell right away that we must have had something installed. Usually when he came over he would cough and complain that the smoke and the cats bothered him. When he comes over now, we don't hear one complaint from him! If you have children with allergies who want pets, an air purifier can help. That way, the pet dander floating in the air will be removed. If you are vigilant about keeping the furniture and floors clean, even children with moderate allergies can still enjoy the companionship of cats and dogs.
If you want a portable air purification system, be aware that it will only work in the room you put it in. A single portable unit isn't enough to clean the air of an entire house. If you have a smoker in the family, a good idea is to designate a particular "smoking" room and keep a high-powered purifier in that room.
