Do Water Softeners Work?

There's one good way to find out whether water softeners do indeed work. That is to go online and read product reviews for softeners currently on the market. The short answer, though, is that they do work.

Softeners take the magnesium and calcium out of your water. "Hard" water has nothing to do with density; it's more likely called hard water because it's really hard to clean anything with calcium or magnesium deposits. All joking aside, however, you've probably encountered these deposits at one time or another, either in the shower or on a coffee pot or tea kettle. Softeners can eliminate the accumulation of these minerals.

Water Softeners--Are They Economical?
Water softeners are definitely economical. When you have hard water, the mineral deposits cling to pipes and water heaters, blocking them and making them less efficient. Some estimates place water heating costs as high as twenty percent above normal for those with hard water. When you think about saving twenty percent of your water heating costs a year, that can often be a significant chunk of money.

You'll notice a cleaner feeling without hard water, too. Soap doesn't dissolve as well in hard water, so you may feel like your skin is still soapy or filmy even after toweling off. The build-up can also affect your hair, too. Hard water is easy to eliminate, so there's no reason to deal with it any longer than you need to.
